  74. This package contains BBS Informant (TM) by Stevenson Technical Services,
  75. Inc. (STSI).  This document contains only a brief description of the
  76. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  77. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  78. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  80. BBS Informant is a BBS door used for adding, listing, and searching
  81. through available BBS names and numbers.  BBS Informant is a
  82. comprehensive list/search door that stores over 40 fields of data on each
  83. BBS.  Store up to 3 phone numbers, baud rates, and modem types for each
  84. bulletin board system.  BBS Informant also contains fields for Software,
  85. Software Version, Sysop, Operating System, BBS Emphasis, Rate, Location,
  86. Number of Lines, Megabytes of Storage, Number of CD-ROMS, Date of Origin,
  87. Services Offered, Summary, and more!  Network support is included.

  89. BBS Informant is a shareware program. You may use it for up to 2 weeks,
  90. without charge (see INFORMNT.DOC for more details).  If you like the
  91. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you

  115. ===== Installation =====================================

  117. The installation procedure for BBS Informant is quite simple.  The
  118. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire
  119. process. You will need about 1 megabyte of available disk space on the
  120. hard drive on which you plan to install BBS Informant.
  121.  
  122. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received BBS
  123. Informant.
  124.  
  125.  
  126. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  127.  
  128. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  129.  
  130. 1. Place BBS Informant distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  131.    diskette drive.
  132.  
  133. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  134.    For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  135.    the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  136.  
  137. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  138.    will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  139.    actually made to the contents of your hard drive. The program will
  140.    ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the BBS Informant
  141.    files to that directory.  If you received BBS Informant on two
  142.    diskettes, you will need to insert Disk 2 in the diskette drive
  143.    when asked to do so.  If you so direct it, the installation
  144.    program will install executable programs and documentation in
  145.    other directories of your choice.

  148. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  149.  
  150. If you downloaded BBS Informant from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  151. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  152. following steps.

  154. 1. Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  155.    directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this varies,
  156.    depending on the form in which you received the package. In all
  157.    likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means that you
  158.    already have the necessary tools and knowledge to perform this step.
  159.    If not, you should be able to obtain directions for this from the
  160.    same source from which you received the package.
  161.  
  162. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  163.    example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted the
  164.    files is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS command,
  165.    "c:\tempdir\install".
